I’m Claire and I started this blog to connect with a community of crafters and to help those just starting out as well as encourage those who have not yet taken up crafting. To get started, I’ll be introducing journaling – if you have already started your journey, stick around because I’d love your input at the end…
Craft isn’t for everyone; I of all people know that. It took me a while to get to a place where I am finally able to accept that things don’t have to be perfect. I’m what you would call an overthinker, I tend to think everything through way too much! This was really difficult for me to overcome, to realise that not everything in life has to be perfect to everyone, what’s perfect to one person may not be perfect to another.
The book I am using for my journal was from Kaisercraft – I got this one a while ago, but there are heaps of different ones, you just have to find what is right for your project.
I have finally begun journaling (after many months of procrastination and contemplation). I began by looking at what scraps I had in my box left over from previous projects. You don’t have to use scraps; I did because I have a lot and thought that by mixing and matching, I might just use some that I haven’t wanted to throw away. My first page, as you can see below, is my least favourite so far – this was the first time I ever tried this sort of thing and, me being me, over thought it and it turned out different to what I had originally hoped for, but I’m still thinking about how I can make it better with additional assets.
As I began to open my mind and just match papers, shapes and quotes together and create a ‘kit’ of matching items, I then found that I could more easily throw it all together in a way that I really loved without having to think too much. I ended up matching the 3 purple papers on the right hand side of the spread, one being already torn on one edge, I decided to keep with the rough feel of this and tear the bottom also. I looked through my boxes of decorative pieces and found the notecards, quotes and borders.
This is just a start to my journal and I will be testing having different levels of décor on the pages for different styles of journals. I want to know what colours or themes you would like to see me do for future pages, or if there are any particular projects that you want me to do.
